The couple had first set up the dhaba in Sheikhupura, near Lahore where they sold dal and roti. It was after the partition in 1947 that they shifted base to Amritsar and worked their way up to create the fan following they have today. Their most selling dish is the Kali Dal or Dal Makhani which is slow cooked in a copper vessel overnight for almost 12 hours. They start preparing the dal at 4 pm (the evening before) and cook it till 4 am in the morning before opening their shutters! They are known for their legendary Paratha Thali which has Palak Paneer, Kali Dal, Amritsari Chole and Lachha Paratha! Their phirni and lassi is also very famous!
